Realer Than Real was first performed in New York City in 2003 and later performed in Corke, Ireland in 2011. The first draft was written while I was attending Sarah Lawrence College. It is dedicated to my father, Michael Blanc.
This feature length stage drama takes place in a world much like our own, except that events occurring within the soul manifest themselves into tangible objects of the physical world, often to an exaggerated degree. Gabriel, a young medical student, becomes so obsessed with success, that he cuts himself off from his emotions and literally becomes a robot. Meanwhile, his father gets downsized by his boss. Can this family survive? Will they stay true to themselves and each other?
